Cougar 300K Review
Cougar 300K Review
Today we are going to have a look at Cougar 300K keyboard. This time the keyboard features Scissor-Swichtes which suppose to have similar properties as mechanical. Cougar decided to integrate yellow customizable backlighting as well.
As always, let’s have a quick look at the packaging first. It’s pretty eye catching due to its yellow/black color combination. There are some main features and functions described at the back side of the packaging in twelve different languages.
The keyboard features 1.8m long non-braided cord. There is also quick instructions booklet included, should you have any problems to setup your macros.
The USB connector is gold-plated, thus you have always good contact. Thanks to rubberized feeds, the keyboard is holding its position stable during gaming, and can be lifted as well.
The surface material feels to be of higher quality. Quite helpful is also the groove at the bottom side, where you can easily route your cord, to prevent cable mess on you desk. There are three possible directions of your cable routing.
The Scissor-Switches can’t compete with real mechanical Cherry MX switches, but don’t get it wrong. They are not bad at all. In fact they were quite comfortable during typing as well as gaming sessions.
The feedback of these switches is weaker as, let’s say by Brown Switches. Although, it shows little advantage during typing.
The Cougar 300K has the option to be set in a “Game Mode”, in which the polling rate jumps to 1000Hz, and so prevents the lag. The “Windows” key is disabled in this mode and Anti-Ghosting keys activated.
The back-lighting illuminates all keys simultaneously, and can be changed in 4 levels of intensity. Twelve macro keys work on-the -fly without a need of additional software or drivers.

Cougar 300K is kind of beginner gaming keyboard with nice illumination for affordable price. Of course the color is not everyone’s taste, but those users who like yellow/black combination find this keyboard exactly the right one. The option to set macro keys is something we like to see. The Scissor-Switches are not the real mechanical switches, but they were designed to be used mostly for typing.
No Windows key between left CTRL and ALT
