Enermax Thormax Giant E-ATX Full Tower Review
It’s been a while since we did a case review, and to refresh the old tradition we have something with plenty of space inside. The talk is about Thormax Giant E-ATX Full Tower which has arrived just couple days ago.
As we can see it’s a nice gaming full tower with windowed side panel. Unique designed window with a pre-installed: 1x 180mm T.B.Vegas Single blue fan with LED lighting in the middle. The fan lighting mode as well as RPM can be quickly adjusted in control panel on top front of the case. Here we’ve found two USB3.0, four USB2.0 ports as well as Start/Reset buttons and Audio/Mic ports.
So let’s have a closer look inside the case. After opening the side panel, we can see that the case is offering us enough space even for E-ATX mainboard. The case can accommodate 5x 3.5″ drives plus one more 3.5″ HDD can be inserted in 5.25″ adapter.
Very interesting window design allowing us to see only a part of internal hardware. As we already mentioned before the adapter can hold one 3.5″ HDD but also 2x 2.5″ SSD. Actually a good idea to save some space.
Big cut-out at the back of the mainboard tray allows very easy installation of cpu cooler. Rubber grommets protecting all holes for cable management.
Quick fix brackets are easy to remove with simple turning the plastic screw anti-clockwise direction.
Pulling the HDD cages out is even easier. There is option for mounting 8x 2.5″ drives (5x converted from 3.5″ tray, 2x converted from 5.25″ adapter, 1x behind M/B tray). There is again enough space for PSU which is sitting on four rubber grommets preventing the PSU from transferring vibrations to the whole chassis.
For hardcore gamers who need more graphics cards for their system, there is option to mount at least three of them. Should you wish to use external liquid cooling for the system, you can route the tubing easily through 4 pre-installed holes with rubber grommets as well.
There is one pre-installed: 120mm Twister Bearing fan at the rear side of the chassis. There you can mount one 140mm fan as well, which has to be bough separately. Enermax is using thumb-screws where ever possible, just to give the user easier way to mount or dismount parts without using screwdriver.
Small accessory box includes 2x velcro tapes, couple zip ties, magnetic headset holder , instructions, additional screws and 8pin adapter.
After removing the top cover we found, that there we can install another 3x120mm, 2x140mm or 1×180/200mm fans at the top.
Both top and front cover are protected with dust filter. We found it to be little bit complicated to remove top cover then undo 6 screws for removing and cleaning dust filter.
There can be 4x 5.25″ drives mounted in front.
There is some space behind the mainboard tray for cable management, but we definitively wish to have at least 3 cm space. When mounting SSD at the back side and routing many cables can be problematic if using more graphics cards and more HDD. For users who wish to hide all cables behind the mainboard tray this can be little bit of challenge.
And another filter is of course hidden at the bottom of this chassis. This two filter can be simply pulled out for easy cleaning. Stands can be turned in 180° for better stability or 90° .
We are extra using our E-ATX board to show how much space it takes away before adding other components into the system.
Enermax Thormax Specifikations:
Enermax Thormax Giant E-ATX Full Tower is a high quality chassis designed mostly for gaming systems. It’s stable chassis and good ventilation option makes it ideal for users even with higher demands or multi GPU setups. We recommend to use only 240mm radiator on top and should it not be enough then another 240mm at the bottom or 120mm at the rear side of the chassis. The Thormax was not primarily designed to support extra watercooling but it’s still capable of support at least some decent cooling.
Very nice is also lighting effect of both 180mm fans ( side + front) which can be controlled in fan RPM and lighting effects. These fans are still relatively quiet and provide enough air flow for cooling the internal components. We also like the options for taking HDD cages out very simple way if you don’t need it. Thus, more fresh air can flow inside the case from front. It was quite easy to mount all hardware inside, there were no sharp edges or any other difficulties except the little space behind the MB tray for cable management. The Enermax Thormax was capable to win our attention an so it deserves out Silver Recommendation.
mutliple watercooling support
modular HDD cages
nice fan lighting and fan control
