Noctua NH-D15 Review
Noctua, company based in Austria has one and only goal, to bring you quality, reliability and performance. They set themselves on a level where only the best is good enough. The proof is their monster cooler Noctua NH-D15. After receiving the package we already knew this is gonna be hell of a cooler before we even opened the magic box.
After unboxing we found this heavy monster sleeping inside waiting to be released to show its performance to the world. All parts were perfectly protected and separately packet. Package itself has all information you need to see. And did we already mention that it’s big?
NH-D15 is using dual tower design with one fan between the cooling towers and second fan you can decide yourself if you mount it in front or back side of the cooler. You still have the option to add third fan which has to be ordered separately.
The copper base is perfectly polished. Noctua includes it’s own thermal compound. The manufacturing quality is excellent.
Noctua’s SecuFirm2™ mounting systems have become synonymous with quality, safety and ease of use. Supporting Intel LGA115x (LGA1150, LGA1155, LGA1156), LGA2011 and AMD (AM3(+), AM2(+), FM1, FM2(+)), the SecuFirm2™ mounting included with the NH-D15 guarantees perfect contact pressure and maximum convenience on all current sockets.
The fans on IDLE are silent, or better say extremely silent, so you won’t hear any noise at all. Fan frame is extremely stable, made of fiber reinforced plastic. Rubber pads are preventing the vibrations to be transferred to the rest of the case.
The NF-A15 premium fans supplied with the NH-D15 support PWM for convenient automatic speed control through the mainboard. In addition, the maximum fan speed can be reduced from 1500 to 1200rpm using the supplied Low-Noise Adapter for even quieter operation.

To ensure that the results from one review to another are comparable, the Testing Methodology will be the same throughout all reviews, otherwise we will make a note if somethings changed and keep it separately from other results.
All testing was done on test Bench-table with a room ambient temperature of 22- 23°C and if temperature changes we will add delta T °C to the results.
Before testing we run 10 minutes of Prime95 followed by 30 minutes of idling. This warm up period was done at stock CPU core frequency. For noise testing we ensure the PSU fan is isolated or using fanless PSU and we don’t use any graphics card. We mostly do fan noise test over night so we have our room as silent as possible.
We take values at IDLE and full load – where all fans run at their maximum speed.
For testing we used OCCT software and between each test we left the PC at least 15 minutes to rest so that the temperature went back to the IDLE state. Followed by overclocking with help of Easy Tune Software. Each test lasted for 15 minutes. If the temperature of any CPU core exceeded 85°C the test was automatically turned off and the value of the results we have marked as “failed”. The resulting temperature in the tables are the average temperature of all cores. The results of the tests are influenced by many factors such as: the amount of thermal paste, pressure between the processor and CPU block, humidity, thermal conductivity of thermal paste, etc.. Therefore this results should be considered as indicative only.
For this test we use it’s own thermal paste provided by manufacturer.
