Seasonic M12II Evo Edition 850W Bronze Review
Seasonic M12II Evo Edition 850W Bronze
Seasonic launched the updated Seasonic M12II Evo Edition 850W Bronze with full modular design achieving 80 Plus Bronze certification. For this series they are releasing two models (750W and 850W) which offers a quite reasonable efficiency. Let’s have a look at 850W model.
We like to see that the PSU body is protected with hard foam and all cables are inside the bag.
There are 3x PCIE cables around 60cm long, each can connect 2 PCIE ports on graphics card. So you can use 3-way SLI if your cards doesn’t have too much power needs. 2x CPU cords around 70cm long and 60cm long 24-pin ATX cord.
We also have 2x SATA cords (80cm long and 42cm). First SATA connector is 40cm from PSU and other 3 connectors are around 12-13cm from each other). All cords are easy to bend so you should not run into any problems when you connect HDD that are too close to each other. There are 2 MOLEX cables, one is around 47cm long( the first MOLEX connector is 33cm away from PSU) and other one 64cm long with 3 connectors. You are able to connect 6 MOLEX powered devices. We also have one MOLEX to FDD adapter cord (13cm).
Seasonic decided to use fully modular design, so enthusiast may appreciate it. All ports and cables are clearly labelled. The cables are flat and very easy to bend, which offers better and cleaner cable management possibilities. Back side of PSU is fully vented to support adequate air flow throughput. The mesh has Honeycomb Structure.
Seasonic made right decisions in choosing components, with DC to DC converter design. A power supply that uses a DC to DC design for the non primary +3.3V and +5V rails will not have a problem with the new low power sleep states. The reason is based around the DC to DC converter, used to convert +12V to +3.3V and +5V. This design ensures that there will always be load on the +12V regards of the load the CPU places on the power supply. The Seasonic M12 II Bronze Evo Edition 850W power supply is using the ADDA AD1212UB-A70GL 120mm 7 blade fan. This 120mm fan is rated at a current of 0.50A and a power output of 6W. The fan can spin up to 2,500 rpm generating 98.6 CFM of air flow while emitting 43.3 dBa noise.
Smart and Silent Fan Control [S²FC] may sound nice however the fan is not the quietest one, but the pitch of the rotor rotation is low, so it isn’t distracting. For users who likes silent PCs it may sound little bit noisy on higher loads over 400W. Seasonic uses Ball Bearing Fan. The fan spins up when the load gets higher. Using Highly Reliable 105°C Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors ensures that the PSU is able to handle higher temperatures. Soldering quality is very high throughout. Seasonic have populated the board with very high grade Japanese capacitors including some from Nippon Chemi Con and Rubycon. There are some Nippon Chemi Con polymer capacitors present, used to filter the DC outputs.
