SteelSeries Rival Gaming Mouse Review
SteelSeries Rival Gaming Mouse is one of those mice which are quite inconspicuous, but man this mouse surprised us as no other for quite a long time. Its so comfortable and silent, that it instantly raised the eyebrow. So let’s have a look at the packaging.
After opening the front cover we can see all main features of the mouse and a mouse itself. All nicely packed, exactly how it should be. First of all ,the Rival is definitely a right-handed mouse. It comes in two color combinations, black with mate smooth coating and white will glossy surface which is easier to clean.
The surface has very comfortable and smooth coating giving the user little bit of warm feeling. It will catch all your fingerprints in just couple days of using, but is doesn’t affect the comfort or the excellent contact with your hand. No matter if you are palm, claw or just finger tips grip-style user, it stays in your hand even during fast or movement intensive games, thanks to special rubber grip on both sides of the mouse.
Position and the ergonomic side buttons are just perfect. At least for bigger hands. So clicks and movements feel natural. Both versions offer real, molded rubber grips that aren’t just a sticker. These are direct injected rubber for better control and grip.
The SteelSeries own switches should have a lifetime of over 30 million clicks and are the high-speed conduit between the sensor and mouse clicks. The clicks are in fact very silent, almost inaudible. Back of the mouse features removable rubber plate which you can 3D print your own, should you wish to personalize it just a little bit more.
At the heart of Rival is the Pixart PMW3310 optical sensor. The 3310 promises zero hardware acceleration, offering true 1:1 tracking and precise movements no matter how fast things get during the heat of battle. The CPI is best-in-class with adjustments from 50 to 6500.
One of the last features is illumination which is capable of 16.8 million colors. The scroll wheel has its own lighting and the logo also its own one. The benefit is you can individually adjust the lighting of even switch one off.
Last but not least is the software customization, which is simple, intuitive and very easy to access. You have many options to pre-program all macros you need, and easily pre-load it with specific game start. All settings are set in SteelSeries Engine 3 mouse customization software. Which can be downloaded here. Adjustable CPI, programmable buttons, polling rate, angle snapping, acceleration and deceleration are among the customizations that will make the mouse perform as you need it.
Even when its called SteelSeries Rival Gaming Mouse, you can easily use it as normal office mouse. You can simply adjust speed and all buttons. It’s very lightweight only about 130gram. So users should not have any issue working with it during the whole day. During testing with couple different games, we found it very responsible, clicks and overall performance is just as good as you need. We were not disappointed in any way and thanks to its fast and easy customization able to set and use all individual macros. Overall managed it to earn our Editor’s choice as well as Gold recommendation award.
