Thermaltake London 550W GOLD Review
Thermaltake London 550W GOLD Review
The Thermaltake London 550W is one of the European Gold Series. Power supply with an 80plus GOLD certification and high quality components for affordable price. Thermaltake London 550W Gold is mid-range when it comes to Wattage. So let’s have a look together what this toy have to offer.
The packaging look good from outside. The back side showing us some main power delivery specifications and number of cable connection. So far, so good. After opening the package we can see that the power supply is wrapped only in plastic bubble foil. It would be safe to have it protected with hard foam as we see by many other competition products.
The power supply will be able to power up only one high-end graphics card, therefore you should definitively sum up your system power requirements. Keep in mind that you don’t want to overload your power supply, do you? There is one PCIE cable, one Molex and two SATA cables included. All cables are flat and easy to form and so your cable routing should be easier.
As we can see the Thermaltake London 550W is semi modular power supply. Only the main 24 pin and 8 pin EPS 12v power cable are directly connected and the rest of your cables depends on your system requirements. Thus, if you don’t need any molex or second SATA cable just take it out and you have nice clean build without unnecessary cable mess. Let’s have a look at the power supply itself now.
It’s actually a nice looking PSU don’t you think? The top grille has Thermaltake logo in the middle. Back side has hexagonal mesh for better air flow. At the bottom side we have the most important information about power delivery. But let’s have a look what’s hidden under this grille.
As we can see the fan is delivered from Yate Loon which is Chinese fan supplier. Not the high-end of course, but still capable at least 100,000 MTBF working hours they claim. The 140mm double ball-bearing fan working at 1500±10% RPM. The fan is not that silent as thermaltake claims, but also not noisy or disturbing loud. Unred normal 50% load, you will probably not even hear it over other HW components like graphics card or most CPU air coolers.
High quality Japanese Nippon Chemi-con capacitor produces supreme performance with low impedance characteristics. The stable operation works for longer time with excellent reliability to enhance the power supply performance.
As we can see the power tester is showing all Voltage in the range of tolerance under no load. For ripple tests and test results under load please follow the link by eteknix.com where you can see that ripple suppression was good across all rails. And yes, in this price point it’s actually nice results.

We have tested this power supply for over one week and used it for overclocking tests. There was no issue what so ever even under higher loads. Thermaltake London 550W is a solid power supply for mid range users. The main goal was to offer decent power delivery in 80 Plus Gold efficiency for a fair price and 5 years warranty means that Thermaltake is confident with this product and its reliability. There is not much offers on the market in €75 price tag for 550W 80 plus Gold power supply. But as already said, if you need to keep price low, there are some compromises have to be made. From us the Thermaltake European Gold London 550W ATX 2.3 power supply has earned Silver Recommendation.
